How to keep squirrels off of my bird feeder?

They are destroying it with their teeth, and eating all the food!

I put one of those umbrella things on the top of it, but they're still getting onto it...

I thought of a b.b. gun, but that's mean and there are other houses around anyway.

Any other plans that work? How to keep squirrels off of my bird feeder?
put your feeder on a pole away from other things they can climb (trees, deck railings, etc.) Then go to the building center and get some 4'; PVC pipe (sewer grade is cheapest and OK). Wire it up so the top is right at the bottom of your feeder. It's too slippery for them to climb. Once in a while, spray some Armor-All on and that makes it even slicker. How to keep squirrels off of my bird feeder?
Okay, not sure how well this will work, but my grandma does it and it keeps the squirrels off of her feeder.

I believe she puts the feeder on a long pole in the middle of her yard, so the squirrels cant jump from a tree onto the feeder, than she puts molasses on the pole, so that the squirrels can not climb onto the pole, due to its ontense stickness.

It doesnt harm the squirrels , it just kinda ';scares'; them, because its something they are not use to. Just remember to check the pole every week or so to make sure that the pole has molasses on it.
I finally put mine out on a pole that the squirrels can't jump to. They're crafty little critters and they will go to great lengths to get to a feeder!

There are squirrel proof feeders out there, but I have found that the pole works best. It's mounted on my deck railing and hangs way out there so they can't get to it.

Hope this helps! Also, try feeding the squirrels corn somewhere else on your property and that will detract them from your bird feeders.
Switch to thistle seed in the feeder they're tearing up. The finches love that, but squirrels hate it.

I've been going through this problem all spring.

I only put sunflower seeds in the long hanging type feeders (much like a finch feeder, but more of a wire mesh with holes big enough for sunflower seeds) and hang them on really little branches. The birds knock enough seed out that the squirrels just hang out underneath.

And buy the squirrels some of their own food. You can't beat 'em, so feed 'em. Corn cobs are good, just throw them out on the ground.

As long as keep food out for them, they stay off my feeders.

Oh, cheap peanuts in the shell are good too.
you could try putting some outdoor animal repellant at the base of the tree (assuming its placed on a tree), otherwise at the base of wherever they are climbing up to get it. It won't matter to the birds because they fly anyways. Outdoor animal pest repellant can be found in hardware stores near pest control and animal supplies (might be labeled as liquid fence or some creative name like that). Hope this helps. Best wishes.
Put bird feeder on a Shepard's hook away from tree and put some Crisco oil on the pole, so they will slip if they try and climb it. Funny to watch too.
shoot them. though im not sure they will like you very much. I KNOW! PUT SOME FOOD AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FEEDER SO THY DONT HAVE TO TREK ALL THE WAY UP
shoot them.or get a squirrel proof feeder!
