How to prevent squirrels from eating from bird feeder?

ive tried hanging it from a very long wire, but it just jumped onto the feeder (about 3 feet) from the tree branch. can you help me?How to prevent squirrels from eating from bird feeder?
I live in GA and we have TONS of squirrels in our back yard. There is nothing you can do to keep a determined and smart squirrel away from bird food. There is a fancy and expensive bird feeder that works with a weight system (the bird stands on a lever to get the food, but the squirrel is too heavy and the weight shuts the trap door), but the squirrels have found a way to just dangle from the post or swing and get to the food. Give it up, really, it's a lost cause! How to prevent squirrels from eating from bird feeder?
Crushed red pepper in the seed prevents squirrels and bugs, but actually benefits the birds. When the birds eat it, it does a lot of great things for their health and kills/prevents internal and external parasites for them. Other than that, squirrels will find a way to get in. We've tried all kinds of contraptions to try to keep them out, but they never work. Moving it away from trees, putting metal on the poles...somehow those little ninjas get in there. So pepper will probably be your best bet :)

I used to get a 4'; pvc pipe and wire it to the top of the post. Spray it once in a while with Armor-All and make sure the feeder is far enough away from anything that they cannot jump to it. It is important to keep it tight at the top or they will climb up the pole and squeeze around the top.
I bought a very nice squirrel proof feeder online. At it's base is a round platform that will support the weight of a bird but will tip if a squirrel tries to sit on it thereby dumping the little pest. I've had for years and have yet to see a squirrel on it. They still eat the seed that the birds drop on the ground though.
I have my feeders on an upright landscape timber buried in the ground. I put a 5 foot long piece of stove pipe around the timber and they do not climb up. It is not near any trees that they can jump from either so it works pretty well. Also kept the neighbors cat from climbing the post I have the birdhouse on and steeling the blue birds from their house.

Good luck!

you should make sure you get enough food for your squirrels too. Just plant a walnut, or apple tree, and your squirrels will go there instead.
mix ground up hot red pepper in with the seed. the squirrels will get the message. It does not affect birds at all.
Cayenne pepper in the bird seed

Birds are not affected - but squirrels hate it with a passion - so do bugs
A pellet gun works well. You wont have any repeat offenders.
