grey tree rats or brown ratsI have 2 red squirrel feeders in my garden. Something keeps emptying one of them over night. Any ideas please?
Have you kept an eye on your neighbours?I have 2 red squirrel feeders in my garden. Something keeps emptying one of them over night. Any ideas please?
.
Rat? Mouse.
Foxes maybe ???
more than likely it is the most common squirrel around, a flying squirrel. you say not common, that is because they only come out at night and are rarely seen, but they are actually more common than greys. i used to go to my feeders winter mornings and find these very strange ';tracks'; in the snow that looked like a bird landed with it's wings spread. After investigating I found out about how common the flying squirrels are.
one word -

Raccoon
Possibly a Raccoon. They can get into about anything.

There are some traps at this site:

have the neighbors been eating a lot of corn on the cob lately?
It could be rats or perhaps a fox if the openings in the feeders are large enough.
set up a video camera with night vision lens/lighting to find out what is getting into the feeders

once you know who the culprit is, you can look for ways to discourage the culprit from getting to the feeder.
The first thing chupacabras is to look for places with 2 red squirrel feeders and empty JUST one overnight.

And after a while...
My uncle had a problem with a bear (black bear) eating all the seed in his bird feeders. He had to stop leaving them out so the bear would move on.
Rats love raiding bird tables and feeders at night. Bet it's them.
A very hungary squirrel. We lost a full feeder to one overnight. They are quite versatile creaturs.
It might be raccoons ...

They are nocturnal feeders and often share the same habitat.

Because they are larger, they could easily empty out the contents of a feeder
I think a red squirrel is feeding itself. Scandalous!
red squirrels?????????
Grey squirrel or a hungry bird
Could you give us some idea of where you live. Red squirrels in the UK are rare except on the Isle of Wight and north of the Tyne. My guess is rats.
munch...chomp...errm...no idea sorry....crunch...munch
Where r you to have red squirrels? bet it is a tree rabbit attacking the feeder (Grey squirrel)
ill take a wild guess here.........maybe a squirrel???????
